Valero Energy Corp., San Antonio, has recently appointed three of its employees to executive vice-president positions.
Gregory C. King holds the position of chief operating officer at Valero. King will supervise the company's refining and marketing operations; supply, marketing, and transportation operations; planning and economics; trading and risk management; and environmental and safety affairs.
King joined Valero as an associate general counsel in 1993 and was later promoted in 1998 to vice-president and general counsel. In 1999, he was tapped as the company's senior vice-president and COO.
Valero Chief Financial Officer John D. Gibbons manages the refining company's accounting, finance, internal audit, and risk insurance functions. In 1981, he joined Valero as manager, financial reporting, and was named director, external reporting/disbursement, in 1989. Gibbons was named treasurer in 1992, and was promoted to vice-president, finance, in 1997. Most recently, he was named CFO in 1998.
Keith D. Booke, Valero's chief administrative officer, heads up the company's administrative functions. Booke joined Valero in 1983 as an auditor; he was later promoted to supervisor, financial planning, in 1986. In 1992, he became investor relations director and, in 1994, he was named vice-president, investor relations. In 1999, Booke was promoted to the position he holds currently.
Other moves
Gene Burden has been named president of Tesoro Alaska Co., a unit of San Antonio-based Tesoro Petroleum Corp. As President, Burden will be responsible for the company's manufacturing, marketing, and distribution activities. Prior to his promotion, Burden served as senior vice-president, governmental relations, for the parent company.
For 11 years before that, Burden held various positions with the Alaskan unit, including senior vice-president, marketing and operations.
Barry R. Pearl has joined Texas Eastern Products Pipeline Co. LLC (TEPPCO) as president and COO. Pearl will be responsible for TEPPCO's operating and commercial activities and will supervise support functions, including engineering, procurement, right-of-way, and information technology. Most recently, Pearl worked for Maverick Tube Corp., St. Louis, where he served as vice-president, finance and chief financial officer.
