EQUIPMENT COSTS CONTINUE TO RISE

Costs for the five equipment items which make up the Nelson-Farrar miscellaneous-equipment cost index advanced steadily over the 2-year period, 1989-1990. The miscellaneous equipment index average moved from 757.7 to 811.0 in 24 months.
Greatest increase among the components making up the equipment average was that of instruments, from 753.4 in January 1989 to 835.3 in December 1990.
The least increase was shown by electrical machinery, from 527.7 to 543.6 in the evaluation period.
Index values for pumps category rose from 1,065.0 to 1,144.4 in the 24 months covered, while the engines category rose from 711.1 to 767.8. Heat exchanger index in December 1990 was 763.7, up from 730.7 2 years earlier.
