China National Technical Export & Import Corp. (Cntic) signed a $29.5 million contract with a venture of Brazil's Petroleos Brasileiro SA and Finland's Jakko Poyry Group to supply technology to produce detergent feedstocks from corn ethanol based ethylene. The technology will be used in several processing units at the Suxian chemical complex in China's Anhui province. It involves producing ethanol from surplus corn production in the province and ethylene from the ethanol, then deriving ethylene oxide to produce the ethoxylated alcohol feedstock for detergent production.

Petrobras developed the process in 1977 and licensed the technology to India's Hinudstan Polymers Ltd. Beijing Consulting & Engineering Corp. for Light Industry will handle project planning.
