Maxus Energy Corp., Dallas, has tested a sizable gas/condensate discovery in Bolivia.
Maxus 1 Surubi cut 115 ft of net pay in Cretaceous Cajones and tested a combined 9 MMcfd of gas and 800 b/d of 50 gravity condensate from two zones covering 66 ft of net pay. Additional zones with a total of 49 ft of net pay were not tested.
The first zone tested flowed 5.44 MMcfd of gas and 520 b/d of condensate from perforations at 11,103-33 ft through a 21/64 in. choke with 1,550 psi flowing tubing pressure. The second zone flowed 3.22 MMcfd of gas and 269 b/d of condensate from perforations at 11,017-67 ft through a 24/64 in. choke with 1,200 psi flowing tubing pressure.
Plans call for a delineation well to spud early this month diagonally from the discovery well site. Maxus said it could have initial production from the field as soon as early 1993.
The discovery well is 155 miles northwest of Santa Cruz and about 19 miles from the nearest pipeline. State owned Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos operates a number of oil and gas fields to the south.
Maxus is operator and holds 100% working interest in the block. Under terms of a contract with YPFB, Maxus will receive 55% of production the first 3 years, and YPFB will receive the remainder. After the initial 3 year period, Maxus and YPFB will split production 50-50.
