Two offshore crudes, Dulang and East Zeit Mix, have been assayed. Both crudes are light, at 390 API gravity, and both are loaded onto tankers offshore in their production areas.
Production from Dulang oil field started up in April 1991 at 30,000 b/d and is expected to increase to 72,000 b/d by 1993.
Dulang field is located 130 km off Terengganu, Malaysia. It straddles areas held by Petronas Carigali, a subsidiary of Petronas, and operator Esso Production Malaysia Inc. The crude is low-sulfur and somewhat waxy.
The field was developed with a 1 million bbl floating storage system in 246-262 ft of water off Eastern Peninsular Malaysia. It holds some 170 million bbl of reserves.
Esso Suez Inc. began production in 1985 from East Zeit field in the southern Gulf of Suez off Egypt.
Production from the concession averaged almost 24,000 b/d from six producing wells in 1990, although originally projected to peak at 15,000 b/d.
The four-pile production platform stands in 244 ft of water. just west of the platform is the onshore East Zeit terminal which contains an employee camp, crude oil stabilization plant, crude storage tanks, and a 200 ft long jetty .
Tankers receive production from a catenary anchor leg mooring buoy installed in 95 ft of water about 1.5 miles offshore.
