Another big Cretaceous Austin chalk oil flow has been reported for a horizontal hole in Pearsall field near Dilley in Frio County, Tex.
The 1 R.B. Good, drilled off an abandoned well by Oilex Worldwide, Houston, flowed naturally 600 bbl of 28 gravity oil into a stock tank for 60 min through a 24/64 in. choke with 280 psi flowing tubing pressure. The well was then choked back to a rate of 87 bbl/hr and later began flowing by heads.
A 24 hr test is pending installation of a pump, said John Haischer, Oilex managing partner. The well was completed at 6,850 ft TD with a horizontal outreach of 1,792 ft from the vertical hole.
The well originally was drilled in 1981 and abandoned in 1982, never having made more than 8-10 b/d.
Haischer expects the allowable for the well to be set at 1,300 b/d. Oilex probably will produce it at 700-800 b/d.
There is room for one more well on the site, but Oilex does not plan immediate drilling. Haischer said lease obligations require work on an Austin chalk prospect in Uvalde County on the banks of Nueces River.
Oilex also is evaluating a lease it acquired in Bastrop County, Tex.
