1993 SALES BY GAS LINES SHOW DECLINE
The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America reports that interstate pipelines' gas sales continued to slide in 1993 as pipelines implemented the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's Order 636.
Ingaa's annual contract carriage survey found interstates' sales dwindled to 10% of gas delivered to market in 1993 as a whole and to only 5% in the last quarter of the year. In volume terms, 1993 sales dropped 16% from the 1992 level.
The Energy Information Administration pegs U.S. 1993 marketed gas production at 19.226 tcf, up 2.7% from 1992.
Ingaa's report also said less volumes were moved through interstate lines as interruptible transportation - about 35% of deliveries in 1993 vs. 42% the previous year.
Ingaa said, "These decreases were balanced by an increase in firm transportation and to some extent by the first released firm transportation flowing from the capacity release market."
Firm transportation grew to 53% of deliveries for market, up from 45% in 1992, while released firm transportation represented 2% of delivered volumes for the year.
