SHARJAH TO SUPPLY GAS TO OTHER U.A.E. EMIRATES

Aug. 15, 1994
Sharjah has signed an agreement to supply natural gas to fuel power stations in other northern emirates of the U.A.E. The agreement results from an expansion project at the Sajaa gas processing plant. The $100 million project, which was to be complete in June, is intended to boost capacity at the plant to 700 MMcfd from 550 MMcfd (OGJ, Aug. 23, 1993, p. 21). Sharjah is the second largest gas producer in the U.A.E. after Abu Dhabi, with production of about 847 MMcfd.

The expansion project was prompted by Amoco Sharjah's 3 Kahif and 4 Kahif discoveries last year (OGJ, Sept. 6, 1993, Newsletter), which added nearly 210 MMcfd of gas and 4,845 b/d of condensate production. That brought Sharjah production to 840 MMcfd of gas and 42,000 b/d of condensate.

The emirate also produces about 8,000 b/d of crude from offshore Mubarak oil field.

Sharjah supplies about 300 MMcfd of gas to Dubai and other northern emirates and liquified petroleum gas to Japan.
