Range Resources Corp., Fort Worth, has selected Dennis Degner, the company’s executive vice-president and chief operating officer, to assume the role of president and chief executive officer on May 10. Degner, who will be nominated for election to the board of directors, assumes the new executive role from Jeff Ventura, who plans to retire from the company effective June 2 after almost 20 years of service. Ventura will not seek reelection to the board.

Degner has more than 25 years of shale gas development experience, including having served as division vice-president of Range’s Appalachia division with responsibility for what is currently Range’s sole operational area, the company said in a release Mar. 16.

Ventura has served as the company’s chief executive officer since 2012 having joined the company as chief operating officer in 2003 (OGJ Online, June 19, 2003). He was instrumental in the discovery of and the development of the Marcellus shale in Appalachia, now one of the largest natural gas discoveries in the world, the company said.

In addition, Mark S. Scucchi, the company’s chief financial officer, has been elected to the position of executive vice-president and chief financial officer.
