Providence Resources Plc has appointed Alan Curran as interim chief executive effective. James Menton reverts to his role as non-executive chairman of the board.

Curran has 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Over the last 2 years, Curran led Ortus Petroleum, an investment vehicle for oil and gas exploration in northwest Europe. Prior to Ortus, he was chief executive officer at Verus Petroleum, which was acquired by NEO Energy in 2019.

Providence Resources is working to progress an appraisal program that it hopes will lead to a phased commercial development of Barryroe oil and gas field. Barryroe—in the North Celtic Sea basin about 50 km off the south coast of Ireland in 100 m of water—is one of the largest undeveloped oil and gas fields offshore Europe (OGJ Online, Dec. 1, 2020).
