Independent Oil and Gas PLC (IOG) has appointed David Gibson as its new chief operating officer, effective Feb. 8.

Independent Oil and Gas PLC (IOG) has appointed David Gibson as its new chief operating officer, effective Feb. 8.

Gibson has nearly 30 years of energy industry experience, culminating in a number of executive management positions over the past decade. Most recently he served as assets director at Ithaca Energy after leading the integration of North Sea assets acquired from Chevron.

The appointment, which the company said is not initially intended to be a board position, enables Rupert Newall to step back from his interim project director role and continue in his permanent role as chief financial officer.

The company said Phase 1 construction of its core UK Southern North Sea (SNS) gas development is under way and development drilling is expected to start in around 2 months, targeting first gas in this year’s third quarter.

Phase 1 comprises the development and production of Southwark, Blythe, and Elgood fields through five wells, with gas transported onshore via the Thames pipeline (OGJ Online, June 1, 2020).
