HOUSTON, Feb. 9 -- Ashland Inc., Covington, Ky., has realigned the existing leadership of its four wholly owned divisions into two management teams—chemicals and transportation construction.

The chemicals component consists of Ashland Distribution, Ashland Specialty Chemical, and Valvoline, and reports to Gary A. Cappeline. He retained his title as Ashland Inc. senior vice-president and assumed the additional titles of president and chief operation officer, chemicals.

The transportation construction component, represented by Ashland Paving and Construction Inc., reports to Garry M. Higdem, who retained his title as Ashland Inc. senior vice-president and Ashland Paving and Construction president.

He also assumes the additional title of president and chief operating officer, transportation construction.

The board of directors approved the strategic move, recommended by Ashland Inc. Chairman and CEO James J. O'Brien.

He emphasized that the management reorganization reflects the logical interrelationship of Ashland's businesses, noting that it's consistent with the American Chemistry Council's categorization of chemical process industries.
