Woodwide Group names new CEO

Australia's Woodside Petroleum Ltd. announced Don Voelte was appointed managing director and CEO of the Woodside Group of Cos., effective Apr. 5.

HOUSTON, Mar. 2 -- Australia's Woodside Petroleum Ltd. announced that Don Voelte was appointed managing director and CEO of the Woodside Group of Cos., effective Apr. 5.

In addition, Keith Spence was named chief operating officer of Woodside Energy Ltd., the operating arm of the Woodside Group.

Previously, Voelte was CEO of Chroma Energy, a Houston-based private exploration and production company specializing in proprietary seismic pattern recognition technology. Earlier in his career, he worked for Mobil Corp. and Atlantic Richfield Co. before Mobil became ExxonMobil Corp. and before BP PLC acquired ARCO.

Spence had directed Woodside's oil business unit until he was named acting CEO in September 2003.
