HOUSTON, July 20 -- ConocoPhillips has named Laura Sugg as president, Australasia, for the company's exploration and production division.

In this role, Sugg will oversee the company's offshore operations in the Timor Sea Joint Petroleum Development Area between Timor-Leste and Australia, the site of ConocoPhillips' major Bayu-Undan development.

She also will have oversight of the company's operations off western Australia and onshore Australia's Northern Territory.

Sugg succeeds Stephen Brand, who was recently named vice-president of the company's exploration and business development organization.

Sugg joined ConocoPhillips in 1986 after working for Sohio Petroleum Co. and has served in a succession of engineering, financial, and business development positions in Houston and Odessa, Tex.; Bartlesville, Okla.; and Stavanger.

In 2001, she was elected vice-president of worldwide gas and later became general manager, midstream operations. In 2003, she was named general manager, upstream human resources, a position she held until being appointed to her new role.
