Energy Institute elects Collins president

John Collins was elected president of the Energy Institute at the UK-based group's recent general meeting. Collins succeeds Euan Baird.

HOUSTON, July 22 -- John Collins was elected president of the Energy Institute at the UK-based group's recent general meeting. Collins succeeds Euan Baird.

Collins is chairman of Dixons PLC and chairman of the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs' Sustainable Energy Policy Advisory Board.

Collins began his career in 1964 with Royal Dutch/Shell Group in agrochemicals before moving into petrochemicals and then oil. He served as chairman and chief executive of Shell in 1990-93. He was group chief executive of the Vestey Group during 1993-2001 and joined National Power PLC as a nonexecutive director in 1996, serving as chairman in 1998-2000.
