Vintage Energy secured the first gas supply contract for Odin field in petroleum retention lease PRL 211 in the South Australian sector of Cooper basin. Partners are accelerating a 1.5 km spur to the existing Vali-Beckler pipeline to supply gas to the Pelican Point Power station.

PRL 211 joint venture interest holders have contracted with Pelican Point Power Ltd., a joint venture between ENGIE Australia and New Zealand (72%) and Mitsui & Co. (28%), to supply gas from Odin field start-up until Dec. 31, 2024, the maximum period permissible for contracting under existing interim ACCC authorization for Odin. The power station is a 497 Mw combined cycle gas power plant in South Australia operated by ENGIE and Mitusi.

The agreement provides Pelican with all of Odin’s gas production over the contract term with commercial terms that encourage field appraisal and production expansion, the company said.

The contract was secured less than 5 months after the JV resolved to accelerate connection of the Odin-1 gas well in South Australia with the spur so gas from the field could be supplied to eastern Australia at the earliest opportunity.

First flow from Odin is expected in September.

Odin will become Vintage’s second producing field when it comes online with gas produced from the field joining that from Vali in the 14-km Vali-Beckler pipeline through which it is transported by the South Australian Cooper Basin JV to the Moomba plant for processing and sale. Accelerated connection of Odin field will enable supply while a long-term connection, involving tieback to Vali infrastructure, is installed.

The Odin discovery, made in May 2021, has been independently assessed as containing a 2C contingent resource of 36.4 bcf of gas in the Permian-age Toolachee, Epsilon, Patchawarra, and Tirrawarra formation reservoirs in Cooper basin (OGJ Online, July 19, 2022).

The discovery well was flow-tested from Epsilon and Toolachee formations at a stable rate of 6.5 MMcfd at a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,823 psi through a 7/16-in. fixed choke.

Interests in both PRL 211 and ATP 2021 are Vintage 50% (operator), Metgasco Ltd. (25%), and Bridgeport Energy Ltd. (25%).
