Equinor Energy AS has let an engineering, preparatory works, removal, transportation, recycling, and disposal (EPRD) contract to DOF Subsea AS for Heimdal subsea decommissioning in the central part of the North Sea in 120 m of water.

The scope of work includes recovery and disposal of about 2,000 tons of subsea equipment. Offshore work is scheduled in two main campaigns across three DOF vessels between 2024 and 2028.

Heimdal field was developed with an integrated drilling, production, and accommodation facility with a steel jacket (HMP1). Production started in 1985. Equinor has been granted consent by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway for life extensions for the Heimdal infrastructure, associated pipelines, and wells, until Jan. 1, 2024 (OGJ Online, April 13, 2021).

After shut-down, Heimdal platforms are scheduled to be removed from 2025-27 and brought ashore at Eldøyane, Stord, for scrapping, reuse, and recirculation (OGJ Online, June 17, 2021).

DOF Subsea project management and engineering starts immediately and shall be delivered by DOF in Bergen, Norway.

Equinor is operator at Hemdal with 29.4% interest. Partners are Petoro AS (20.0%), TotalEnergies SE (16.7%), Spirit Energy AS (28.8%), and LOTOS Exploration and Production Norge AS (5.0%).
