Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. (ReconAfrica) received approval for a 1-year extension on the first renewal period to Jan. 29, 2023, from Jan. 29, 2022, on the 6.3-million acre PEL 73 exploration license covering the Kavango basin in northeast Namibia in the Kalahari Desert.

The extension was granted due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the company’s operations.

ReconAfrica owns 90% interest in the license. State-owned NAMCOR holds 10%.

ReconAfrica’s drilling campaign began in January 2021 (OGJ Online, June 7, 2021). The main objective was to confirm an active petroleum system in the basin.
