PGNiG Upstream Norway has received formal approvals from the Norwegian petroleum authority to acquire interests in licenses covering Equinor-operated Kvitebjørn and Valemon fields in the North Sea.

Interests in four licenses were acquired by the PGNiG SA subsidiary in September 2020 from Norske Shell (OGJ Online, Sept. 1, 2020). Both fields contain predominantly natural gas.

With the acquisitions from the producing fields, the company expects 2021 produced gas volumes to reach 0.9 bcm, almost double the level recorded in 2020, said Paweł Majewski, president of the PGNiG management board in a Jan. 5 statement.

According PGNiG’s estimates, in 2023–2028 (after the Baltic Pipe launch), the two fields will deliver about 0.2 bcm of gas/year to the company.
