BSEE: 14% of Gulf of Mexico oil production remains shut-in following Hurricane Zeta

Offshore oil and gas operators in the US Gulf of Mexico evacuated platforms and rigs ahead of Hurricane Zeta, which made landfall in southeast Louisiana as a Category 2 storm on Oct. 28.

Based on data from offshore operator reports submitted to the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement as of 11:30 CDT on Nov. 3, personnel were still evacuated from 24 of the 643 manned platforms in the US gulf.

BSEE estimated that 14.42% of current gulf crude oil production, or 266,744 b/d, and 10.28% of natural gas production, or 278.66 MMcfd, were still shut in Nov. 3.

One dynamically positioned rig was still recorded as moved off location by BSEE’s count.

The survey is reflective of 23 companies’ reports as of 11:30 CDT Nov. 3.
