The Keraudren 3D seismic survey in the Bedout subbasin off Western Australia delivered a high-quality data set over Dorado and Roc fields in permit WA-437-P, as well as surrounding area, to a joint venture of Santos Ltd. and Carnarvon Petroleum Ltd. (OGJ Online, Apr. 16, 2020).
Based on a fast track interpretation, the 3D data volume has improved the visibility of the key geological intervals associated with the hydrocarbon zones of both fields and, by extension, within these intervals in the surrounding area, Carnarvon said.
In particular, the seismic mapping has confirmed the structural integrity of the nearby Apus and Pavo prospects.
Carnarvon recently applied semi-automated seismic interpretation software to the Keraudren data to provide a clearer view of Dorado field. The JV is now working with the data to determine follow-up exploration potential in the surrounding prospects to support Dorado field development plans.
The Keraudren survey was run in 2019 using ‘source over streamer’ technology. A higher quality data set is expected before the end of this year.
The cross-section in Fig. 1 shows the reservoir sands in yellow – Dorado structure on the left and the Apus prospect in the center across the Dorado channel and running to the right-hand side of the cross section. The source rock interval is shown in green.
Santos is operator with 80%. Carnarvon Petroleum holds 20%.
