Equinor has been granted consent by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to use the facilities on Tordis and Vigdis fields in the North Sea beyond their respective December 2019 and March 2024 consents.
Tordis has secured consent until Dec. 31, 2036, and Vigdis until Dec. 31, 2040. This means that the facilities will operate for a total of 34 years longer than originally presumed.
Equinor is operator of both fields, which lie in production license 089 in the Tampen area in the northern North Sea.
Tordis, comprised of four deposits—Tordis, Tordis Ost, Borg, and 34/7-25 S in 150-220 m of water—is developed using a central subsea manifold tied to the Gullfaks C facility. Seven separate satellite wells and two subsea templates are connected to the manifold. It produces oil from Jurassic sandstone. The reservoirs in Tordis and Tordis Ost are in the Middle Jurassic Brent Group, and the reservoir in Borg is in Upper Jurassic intra-Draupne formation sandstone. The reservoir in the deposit 34/7-25 S is in the Middle Jurassic Brent Group and in Upper Jurassic sandstone. The reservoirs lie in 2,000-2,500 m of water and the reservoir quality is good to excellent.
The field is produced by pressure support from water injection and by natural aquifer drive. Production from the Borg structure is influenced by the Statfjord field blowdown and dependent on pressure maintenance by water injection. Tordis Ost is produced with pressure support from natural aquifer drive.
The well stream from Tordis is transported via two pipelines to the Gullfaks C facility for processing. The oil is exported by tankers, while the gas is exported via Statpipe to the Karsto terminal. Tordis has produced since 1994, and a subsea multiphase pump was installed in 2007 to increase recovery from the field.
Vigdis started producing in 1997, and the plan is to also install a subsea multiphase pump on this field in 2020 (OGJ Online, Dec. 5, 2018). It is developed with seven subsea templates and two satellite wells which are tied to the Snorre A facility. Water depth in the area is 280 m. Stabilized oil is transported by pipeline from Snorre A to Gullfaks A for storage and export. All produced gas from Vigdis will be reinjected into the Snorre reservoir from 2019.
Vigdis produces oil from sandstone in several deposits. The reservoir in the Vigdis Brent deposit is in the Middle Jurassic Brent Group, while the Vigdis Ost and Vigdis Nordost deposits are in Upper Triassic and Lower Jurassic sandstone in the Statfjord Group. The Borg Nordvest deposit is in Upper Jurassic intra-Draupne sandstone. The reservoirs are at a depth of 2,200-2,600 m and have generally good quality.
Current licensees on both fields are Equinor, Petoro, ExxonMobil, Idemitsu Petroleum, and DEA Norge.
