LOS ANGELES, June 18 -- Petroleo Brasilerio SA (Petrobras) said its 4-BRSA-711-RJS (4-RJS-647) well further confirms reserves estimates of 5-8 billion boe of light oil and natural gas in the Tupi area in ultradeep water off Brazil.

It said the Santos basin well, in more than 2,000 m of water, confirmed the presence of high quality reservoirs and of 30° gravity oil similar to that found in the pioneering Tupi well.

Petrobras said this third well, informally known as Iracema, is in the Tupi Assessment Plan area 250 km off Rio de Janeiro.

An extended production test to a floating production, storage, and offloading unit is under way for the first two wells, Tupi-1 and Tupi Sul (OGJ, May 11, 2009, Newsletter).

The consortium responsible for exploration of the BM-S-11 block comprises Petrobras 65%, BG Group 25%, and Galp Energia 10%.
