California no Abu Dhabi

The article on the San Joaquin basin was extremely interesting but will be relegated to the dusty shelves of some technical library (OGJ, Oct. 5, 2015, p. 42). I am unable to believe that any California politician will ever accept the idea of new hydrocarbon production in the state.

I seem to recall the state restrictions to their offshore areas. A recent conference in Houston focused on worldwide replacement of petroleum reserves. No one made any reference to California.

Adjacent to the San Joaquin article was the insert describing petroleum activities in Abu Dhabi. Their motto is "Explore, develop, produce." Unfortunately, California is afraid of such activities.

How sad.
