bp plans further exploration of Bumerangue block in Santos basin, offshore Brazil, based on results from 1-BP-13-SPS exploration well.

Following the discovery, initial laboratory and pressure gradient analysis has confirmed the presence of an approximate 1,000 m gross hydrocarbon column including a 100 m gross oil column and a 900 m gross liquids rich gas-condensate column, the company said.

Results from the rig-site analysis indicate elevated levels of CO2, but said it believes it can be managed.

The operator is continuing laboratory testing and analysis to determine fluid characteristics, gas-to-oil and condensate-to-gas ratios, and an estimate of in-place volumes.

Planning of appraisal activities is ongoing with well activities expected to begin in early 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

The company drilled well 1-BP-13-SPS at Bumerangue block in the presalt, 404 km from Rio de Janeiro in 2,372 m of water. The well was drilled to 5,855-m TD and intersected the reservoir about 500 m below the crest of the structure. The well penetrated an estimated 500-m gross hydrocarbon column in high-quality pre-salt carbonate reservoir with an areal extent larger than 300 sq km.

bp holds 100% participation in the block with Pré-Sal Petróleo SA as the production-sharing contract manager.
