Chevron Egypt Holdings C Pte. Ltd. discovered gas at the Nargis-1 exploration well in the Nargis Offshore Area Concession, Eastern Mediterranean Sea, offshore Egypt, said partner Eni SPA in a Jan. 16 release.
Nargis-1 was drilled in 1,014 ft (309 m) of water by the Stena Forth mobile offshore drilling unit and encountered about 200 net ft (61 m) of Miocene and Oligocene gas bearing sandstones.
The discovery could be developed through nearby Eni infrastructure, the company said.
Chevron Holdings is operator of the 1,800-sq km concession with 45% interest. IEOC Production BV, an Eni affiliate, holds 45% interest and Tharwa Petroleum Co. SAE holds the remaining 10%.
