LONDON, Oct. 8 -- Lundin Petroleum AB has acquired Block 10A in the Anza basin of northwest Kenya. It describes the block as having "excellent quality, oil-prone source rocks, oil-saturated sandstone reservoirs, and a multitude of structural traps, which remain undrilled."
Under a production-sharing contract, Lundin will become the sole operator, and the Kenyan government will have an option to participate with an interest as high as 13% if there is a commercial discovery.
Block 10A covers 14,748 sq km in the onshore Anza basin, an extension of Sudan's prolific Muglad basin.
