HOUSTON, Jan. 12 -- Foothills Resources Inc., Bakersfield, Calif., began 3D seismic surveying on 13 sq miles around Grizzly Bluff gas field, Humboldt County, in the Eel River basin.

Quantum Geophysical Inc. is acquiring the survey, which is to assist in development of the gas field and exploration of the deeper Grizzly Bear prospect. Grizzly Bear, a structure proved to contain gas by a Chevron Corp. well drilled in 1971, could be drilled in 2007.

As many as seven wells could be drilled in 2007 in the area southeast of Eureka, Calif., Foothills said.

The company acquired 6,600 acres of leases in the basin in 2006, 25% of which are in the Grizzly Bluff area and the rest of which are over six other prospective areas in the basin. Leasing continues.

The field went on line in 2004 at modest producing rates (OGJ, May 10, 2004, p. 34).
