BPZ to negotiate for new block off Peru

BPZ Energy Inc. will negotiate with state-owned Perupetro for an exploration and development license covering onshore Block XXIII in Peru near offshore Corvina gas field, where it will begin drilling in August.

HOUSTON, July 19 -- BPZ Energy Inc. will negotiate with state-owned Perupetro for an exploration and development license covering onshore Block XXIII in Peru near offshore Corvina gas field, where it will begin drilling in August.

Perupetro has told the company it was the winning bidder for the 248,000-acre onshore block in a recent tender process.

BPZ has begun moving an upgraded Petrex SA rig onto the Corvina CX-11 platform on offshore Block Z-1, where it plans to drill at least three wells and recomplete a fourth (OGJ, June 19, 2006, Newsletter).
