LONDON, Apr. 17 -- Petrobras Middle East BV has signed a letter of intent with Scan Geophysical ASA to carry out a 2D seismic survey in the Caribbean starting in early May.

Petrobras commissioned 2,500 km of 2D data, using the M/V Geo Searcher vessel, which will acquire 120 fold, high-density 2D data. "This modern 2D seismic vessel is equipped to handle ultralong streamers for high-end 2D applications including long offset and large source configurations for 2D surveys worldwide," Scan Geophysical said.

A company spokesman declined to specify the area in the Caribbean or the value of the deal due to confidentiality agreements. But according to reports, Petrobras is interested in a deepwater block off Cuba.

This is the second contract that Scan Geophysical has concluded with Petrobras following its survey in the southern North Sea last year.
