LONDON, July 17 -- RWE Dea AG will shoot 3D seismic and drill a shallow-water exploration well on Block 23 off Turkmenistan in the southeastern Caspian Sea.

The government has awarded the company the concession to explore and develop the 940 sq km area, which lies in 5-10 m of water.

RWE Dea will carry out an environmental study before starting on the seismic survey, which will cover 400 sq km. “The company has been operating the Mittelplate drilling and production island in Schleswig-Holstein’s Wattenmeer tidelands, a nature reserve, incident-free for almost 22 years now,” said RWE Dea.

A company spokeswoman told OGJ that it would coordinate with the Turkmen authorities on when to start the environmental study and the work program timetable.
