    Guyana: Repsol spuds Jaguar deep shelf wildcat

    Repsol Exploracion SA has spudded the Jaguar-1 well on the Georgetown Petroleum Prospecting License offshore Guyana.

    Repsol Exploracion SA has spudded the Jaguar-1 well on the Georgetown Petroleum Prospecting License offshore Guyana.

    Destined to become the deepest well in the Guyana Suriname basin, Jaguar-1 is to go to 6,500 m to test a target of Turonian age, the producing formation in fields off Brazil and West Africa. The Atwood Beacon jack up has the contract for the 180-day well.

    Repsol is operator with 15% interest in the block. Others in the group are YPF Guyana Ltd. and Tullow Oil PLC with 30% each and a unit of CGX Energy Inc., Toronto, 25%.
