NEW SEISMIC METHOD EMPLOYED IN NORTH SEA

Halliburton Geophysical Services' Polar Princess 3D seismic vessel is conducting industry's first six line survey using triple 3,000 m streamers and dual source arrays in the North Sea. The vessel is under contract to Conoco (U.K.) Ltd. HGS, Bedford, England, said the new technique will increase the amount of high quality 3D seismic that can be acquired in a single pass of the vessel by 50%, compared with conventional four line operations.

Deployment follows a major upgrade completed earlier this year by HGS on the 4 year old, Norwegian flagged Polar Princess. An ice class ship, it was launched in 1986 as a purpose built 3D seismic vessel.

Polar Princess is designed to minimize noise from the main engines, hull, and propellers, which can interfere with data recording.
