LLOG Exploration Co. LLC, Covington, La., has let a contract to ABL, part of ABL Group ASA, to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) services for the subsea development of the Salamanca project in the Gulf of Mexico.

Salamanca development envisages the build-out of Leon and Castille oil fields in water depths of 1,800-2,000 m.

The subsea portion of the project includes the installation of three infield subsea pipeline systems, as well as the design and fabrication of subsea structures. The pipelines will run from the wellsite to the Salamanca floating production unit (OGJ Online, May 4, 2022).

The column-stabilized Salamanca FPS will sit in Keathley Canyon Block 689 in 6,400 ft of water to tap the Lower Tertiary Leon and Castile discoveries, LLOG said in May 2022.

The platform will have processing capacity of 60,000 b/d of oil, 25,000 b/d of water, and 40 MMscfd of natural gas. Three initial development wells are planned, two on Leon field and one on Castile field. Initial production from the joint development is expected in mid-2025.

Under the terms of the contract, ABL will provide technical document review and approval of all project critical procedures, drawings and documentation, and suitability inspections of the proposed fleet for subsea operations. ABL will also provide on-site attendances to review and approve transportation and mobilization operations of project assets.

The project will be managed and resourced by ABL’s office in Houston, Tex., USA, with support of ABL’s marine surveyor network around the Gulf of Mexico. The ABL team will begin its involvement in first-quarter 2024.
