Shell granted consent for removal, disposal on Knarr field

Norske Shell has been granted consent by the Petroleum Safety Authority for removal of and disposal of the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO and seabed structures on Knarr field in the northern part of the North Sea.

AS Norske Shell has been granted consent by the Petroleum Safety Authority for removal of and disposal of the 63,000 boe/d Petrojarl Knarr floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) and seabed structures on Knarr field in the Norwegian North Sea.

Deepwater Knarr oil field lies 50 km northeast of Snorre field in water depth of 400 m. It was discovered in 2008, and the plan for development and operation was approved in 2011. Development comprises the FPSO and two subsea templates, including six wells for production and injection. The field consists of two segments, Knarr West and Knarr Central with one template on each structure. Production started in 2015 (OGJ Online, Mar. 18, 2015).

The field is in tail phase. A decommissioning plan was submitted to the authorities in 2020.
