HOUSTON, Sept. 9
– Oil Search Ltd., Sydney, drilled the Jebel Al Milh-1 exploratory well on Block 7 in the Shabwah basin to a total depth of 4,227 m and was preparing to further evaluate Lam clastics in the Jurassic Madbi formation.

Well log analysis across a number of intervals in the Lam suggest possible oil saturation, said partner AWE Ltd., Sydney. Elevated gas with oil shows were encountered while drilling the unit.

Jebel Al Milh-1 is 16 km north-northeast of the Al Meashar-1 well, which recently discovered oil in fractured basement. The Lam member of Madbi is a secondary target of the well.

Block 7 interests are Oil Search 34%, AWE’s ARC Energy Holdings Ltd. 21.25%, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co. (Aden) Ltd. 21.25%, Yemen General Corp. for Oil and Gas 15%, and Mitsui E&P Middle East BV 8.5%.
