HOUSTON, Sept. 29
– Colombia’s state Ecopetrol reported a 100% owned dry gas discovery at its Oripaya-1 well in northern Santander Province 20 km northeast of Cucuta.

The well, part of the Uribante exploration and production agreement in the Catatumbo subbasin, went to a TD of 13,320 ft. It found the Lower Cretaceous Aguardiente formation at 12,530 ft to be a gross 680 ft thick with 5-9% porosity.

The formation averaged 6.6 MMcfd of gas and 196 b/d of water on a 20/64-in. choke at wellhead pressures that exceeded 3,000 psi. The drillstem tests lasted 1 week. Ecopetrol is studying the discovery’s potential.
