HOUSTON, Sept. 22
– Dana Petroleum PLC has spudded the Cormoran-1 exploratory well in the Atlantic in Block 7 off Mauritania 2 km southeast of the company’s Pelican-1 discovery well.

Dana was preparing to run 20-in. casing to 2,226 m in 26-in. hole before drilling ahead.

The Maersk Deliverer semisubmersible is to drill Cormoran-1 to 4,600 m in 1,632 m of water.

Cormoran is the largest prospect in Dana’s 2010 exploration program. Target recovery is 400-780 million bbl of oil equivalent based on 3D seismic mapping. The well is expected to encounter three zones of interest between 2,890 m and 4,600 m.

Block 7 participating interests in Block 7 are Dana 36%, GDF Suez Exploration Mauritania BV 27.85%, Tullow Petroleum (Mauritania) Pty. Ltd. 16.20%, PC Mauritania I Pty. Ltd. 15%, and Roc Oil (Mauritania) Co. 4.95%.
