– Gran Tierra Energy Inc., Calgary, gauged oil at a delineation well near its Moqueta new field discovery on the Chaza block in the Putumayo basin in southern Colombia.

Gran Tierra will drill Moqueta-3 from the Moqueta-1 well pad downdip in a southerly direction to further assess field size because no oil-water contact has been identified.

Gran Tierra completed initial tests at Moqueta-2 by collecting reservoir data and fluid samples from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Caballos formations. Out of five hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs, only three were tested to maintain the casing integrity for future production.

Five intervals totaling 18 ft in Middle Caballos were perforated and tested at 4,120-57 ft measured depth. The zone flowed at 850 b/d of 30° gravity oil with 0.1% water cut on a 30/64-in. choke.

Three intervals totaling 16 ft in Lower Caballos were perforated and tested at 4,171-94 ft measured depth. The zone flowed at up to 227 b/d of 28° gravity oil on a 30/64-in. choke.

Last, a 7-ft interval at 4,190-97 ft measured depth in Upper Caballos tested at 5.1 MMscfd of gas on a 28/64-in. choke without water.

The T sandstone and the Villeta Lower U sandstone were not tested.

Gran Tierra plans to construct a 7-km pipeline to tie Moqueta-1 pad wells into the Costayaco facilities, with anticipated initiation of long-term oil testing and early production in the first quarter of 2011.
