HOUSTON, May 18 -- A joint venture spudded a well on the Koppers South prospect in Campbell County on trend with Days Chapel field in Claiborne County, the state's largest oil producing area.

Exploring the 22,000-acre prospect is Wind Mill Oil & Gas LLC, a joint venture of Wind City Oil & Gas LLC 51% and Miller Petroleum Inc., Huntsville, Tenn., 49%.

Objectives are Mississippian Big Lime and Devonian Chattanooga shale. Several coal seams also underlie the prospect, on the southern Pine Mountain thrust. The joint venture seeks gas. The eastern part of the prospect already produces oil.
