HOUSTON, Oct. 31 -- EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc., Calgary, spudded the Barclay 162-2 well in late September in Maverick County, the first of eight wells originally planned in 2006 to target the gas-prone, overpressured Cretaceous Pearsall shale.

EnCana's extensive completion, testing, and evaluation process is expected to continue through yearend, to be followed with more well drilling in 2007, said 50% interest holder The Exploration Co., San Antonio (OGJ Online, Sept. 8, 2006).

Drilling depth is expected to be around 7,000 ft.
