HOUSTON, July 6 – Colombia’s National Hydrocarbon Agency awarded the Pacarana Technical Evaluation Area in the Caguan-Putumayo basin to Canacol Energy Ltd., Calgary.
The Pacarana block covers 1.16 million acres south of the Ombu E&P contract area, where Emerald Energy PLC and Canacol are appraising the fall 2008 Capella heavy oil discovery with as much as 100 million bbl recoverable (OGJ Online, Sept. 18, 2008).
Pacarana work obligations call for 2,240 km of aeromagnetic and gravity data and conduct geotechnical studies including the interpretation of available LandSat image data in 12 months.
