HOUSTON, June 15
-- The South Petroleum Co. joint venture has spud the North Ayzar-1 wildcat on the Tuzluk license in Kyrgyzstan, said participant Manas Petroleum Corp., Baar, Switzerland.

Projected to 1,950 m, it is to test Paleogene clastics and carbonates between 1,650 m and 1,900 m. The drill site is 3 miles northeast of Beshkent-Togap oil field.

The rig will then drill a well to 2,400 m on the Huday Nazar prospect on the Soh license. Huday Nazar replaces the previously planned drilling of the smaller and shallower East Chongora prospect on the Soh license (see map, OGJ, Nov. 19, 2007, p. 34).
