HOUSTON, June 22 – Israel’s petroleum commissioner awarded Zion Oil & Gas Inc., Dallas, a 165,000-acre exploration permit adjacent to and east of Zion’s Asher-Menashe license.
The permit extends Zion’s oil and gas rights from the Mediterranean at Caesarea across the Carmel Mountains to Megiddo and through to the Jordan River just south of the Sea of Galilee. Zion named the permit Issachar-Zebulun.
The commissioner extended for 6 months to Jan. 1, 2010, Zion’s drilling obligation period to allow time to complete drilling the Ma’anit-Rehoboth-2 well. The well was at 15,100 ft on June 18.
