HOUSTON, June 23
– Emerald Energy PLC and Ecopetrol SA drilled Gigante-2 to TD 15,630 ft and are setting production liner to test hydrocarbon shows in the Tetuan reservoir and Caballos formation.

Gigante-2, in the Matambo Association Contract in Colombia’s Upper Magdalena Valley, is a development well in Tetuan and an exploration well in Caballos. Tetuan and Caballos were topped 378 ft and 338 ft structurally higher, respectively, than in the Gigante-1A well, better than the predrill estimate of 260 ft.

Preliminary analysis of drilling and wireline log data indicates 32 ft gross and net potentially oil-bearing sandstone in Tetuan with 10% average porosity, similar to the porosity in Gigante-1A, and 163 ft gross and 107 ft net sandstone with 9% average porosity in Caballos. Caballos is not yet confirmed to be oil-bearing.
