Kuwait Energy Egypt encountered oil-bearing reservoirs in the ASX-1X exploration well in the Abu Sennan license, 7 km north of the producing Al Jahraa field in Egypt's Western Desert, partner United Oil & Gas PLC said in a Sept. 21 release.

The well, the second exploration in the license this year, was drilled by the EDC-50 rig to a total depth of 4,272 m.

Preliminary interpretations suggest the well encountered at least 10 m net pay across several reservoir intervals, including the primary reservoir targets of the Abu Roash formation. Evaluation of the well data is continuing, and a comprehensive plan for testing and completing the well is planned.

If successful, this will be followed by an application to Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. for a development lease. An initial program of four wells is planned for 2022 as part of the long-term planning for Abu Sennan,

Abu Sennan is operated by Kuwait Energy Egypt (25%). Joint venture partners are United Oil & Gas (22%), Global Connect Ltd. (25%), and Dover Investments (28%).
