Equinor Energy AS has been granted a drilling permit by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea.

Well 6407/1-9—the first exploration well in license 939—will be drilled from the West Hercules drilling rig about 2 km northeast of the 6407/1-5 S Maria appraisal well and about 7 km northwest of 6407/1-6 S Rodriguez. The area in the license consists of parts of blocks 6406/3 and 6407/1.

Equinor is operator with 70% interest. PGNiG Upstream Norway AS holds the remaining 30%.
