ExxonMobil encountered non-commercial hydrocarbons in the first well on Canje block, offshore Guyana, but data collected confirms presence of the Guyana-Suriname basin petroleum system and potential prospectivity of the block, said indirect interest holder Westmount Energy Ltd. in a release Mar. 4.

Bulletwood-1 was drilled in 2,846 m of water by the Stena Carron drillship to its planned target depth of 6,690 m. The well encountered quality reservoirs but with non-commercial hydrocarbons.

The well is the first of three scheduled to be drilled on the block in 2021, with drilling of the independent prospects Jabillo-1 and Sapote-1 to follow over the coming months.

Canje is operated by ExxonMobil subsidiary Esso Exploration & Production Guyana Ltd. (35%). Total (35%), JHI Associates Inc. (17.5%), and Mid-Atlantic Oil & Gas Inc. (12.5%) are partners. Westmount holds an indirect interest from its 7.7% interest in JHI.
