Crescent Midstream will development of a carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project proposed for Entergy Corp.’s 994 Mw Lake Charles Power Station in Westlake, La. The project, if completed, could capture and transport up to 3 million tonnes/year (tpy) of CO2.
Crescent Midstream would apply its onshore and offshore pipeline construction and operations experience to develop and construct an integrated CCS project capable of capturing, transporting, and permanently storing CO2 emitted from the natural gas-fired power plant.
Additional collaborators on the $1-billion project are Samsung E&A and Honeywell (carbon capture technologies).
Louisiana CO2 emissions
The majority of Louisiana’s CO2 emissions are concentrated in the lower Mississippi River Industrial Corridor, which produces more than 72 million tpy of CO2 emissions, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. Roughly 66% of the state's CO2 emissions come from industrial sources and 13% come from electric power generation.
