Navigator CO2 Ventures LLC has signed a letter of intent to provide 5 million tonnes/year (tpy) of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) services to POET LLC on its Heartland Greenway system in the midcontinent US. The system will phase in 18 of POET’s bioprocessing plants across Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota, and is on schedule to be in-service during 2025.
With the addition of POET to the platform, Navigator’s Heartland Greenway system will provide CCUS services for more than 30 industrial processors across the agriculture and food production value chains, representing more than 10 million tpy of CO2 emissions, including the two largest bioethanol producers in the US.
Navigator plans to deliver as much as 15 million tpy of CCUS services via additional pipeline laterals and parallel development of multiple storage sites.
Heartland Greenway will include 1,300 miles of 24-in. OD trunkline and smaller diameter laterals. Captured CO2 will be sent to storage near the Mt. Simon Sandstone in Illinois. Valero Energy Corp. will be another major shipper on the pipeline (OGJ Online, Feb.7, 2022).
